Lesson 1: Introduction and discussion about scientific method.
Why do you think the scientific method an important process?


Decide what factor can be measured to determine which is the 'best' paper airplane.

Write a question that states what your group would like to investigate.
We think it is an important process to know what your dealing with in the history of something your working on such as a 'paper plane'.
It is important to have methods so that you can carefully fold and cut the paper because we have noticed that if you make an error, normally a wing on your plane will be bigger than the other.
This question wants you to say why following the methods in your hand out are important, rather than just making some planes and throwing them around.

How much pressure of wind is needed to make a paper plane fly??
Lesson 2: Research of different paper planes to determine which variable you will test (length of plane, width of plane, mass etc) that affects the factor you are measuring
(length of flight, height of flight, accuracy of flight).
Write three to five notes about what you have learnt from your research.

Notes:
(1)The first flying devices to use paper were kites in China about 2000 years ago.
(2)Early hot air balloons, such as the first balloons made by the Montgofier Brothers in France in the late 1700's, also used paper in their construction.
(3)Their early model balloons were all paper, and their first human-carrying balloons of 1783 were cloth lined with paper.
(4)Sometimes the heavier the plane the longer distance it goes.
(5) The harder you throw it the longer it goes.

My hypothesis is That after we fold our paper correctly and it is folded into a plane that when it
it is threw in the air with enough speed it should
be able to fly/glide in the air.
We think the jet will fly the longest distance

Lesson 3: Independent, controlled and dependent variables.

Lesson 4: Trials
Choose three planes and complete five trials for each plane.
Collect the data for each trial.
Complete the Google form (Result Entry Form) with your results
One member of the group should be responsible for filming a student explaining the hypothesis being tested, the actual flight trials or post-flight results.
We used three different types of airplanes (Army plane, Jet plane and a Standard plane.
These are our highest results:
Army Plane: 4.4sec
Standard plane:3.7 sec
Jet plane:2.5..
We discovered that the widest plane stayed in the air the longest.
The skinniest plane stayed in the air for only half the amount of time as the wider ones did.
